Students helping Students
This Mental Health First aid (Tertiary) course teaches tertiary students how to assist a fellow student who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Students will gain skills in recognising common mental health problems, develop knowledge of possible causes and learn how to provide initial support to those in need. It is tailored to the tertiary setting using case-studies, videos and resources relevant to students.
You will learn how to assist a fellow student who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan.
This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals. It is an education course, to learn how to give first aid to others, and is not a therapy or support group.
This is a blended course comprising four hours of face-to-face learning and an online component which takes approximately six hours to complete.
This course is run by PD Training Services and is accredited by Mental Health First Aid Australia.
